Inglorious Basterds 2-Disc Special Edition

Movies directed by Quentin Tarantino are bound to be a little bit different from the rest of what Hollywood puts out and right down to the spelling of this latest title, Inglorious Basterds definitely offers a bit of the atypical that Tarantino’s known for. Those expecting a ‘Greatest Generation’ style World War II epic are bound to be disappointed because this is not your traditional ode to the mythological war that altered the world. It is not intended to be historical in any way and is certainly nothing akin to what Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers had to offer their audiences. What we’re dealing with here is an avant garde, well as avant garde as Tarantino can be considered due to his current popularity, film with a great big budget.

This double disc special edition offers plenty to love and you’re bound to find that the movie itself is greatly built upon by being able to see all the back shots and commentary that help flesh out the experience. If you’re looking for a film that’s going to really take you away in the style of the better television shows of yesteryear that were so rich in style and storytelling, you can’t go wrong with Inglorious Basterds. You’ll get to see what Tarantino hoped to do, which is ‘defeat Adolph Hitler with cinema’ and it’s arguable that he’s accomplished it here because this movie doesn’t shy away from directly attacking the hive mindset of the diabolical minds running the Axis war machines.
